What I'd like to do on a first date...

I am open to multiple possibilities, but I think being able to chat in a relaxed setting is important for the first date. I think it's good to start slow - maybe lunch, a short hike or bike ride. Having said that, a longer distance relationship changes the rules for this in the sense that this "get to know you" phase tends to start on the phone/Skype for a while before the actual "first date" if you will.

My past relationships have taught me...

Relationships are a two-way street. Both sides need to be willing to communicate when there is an issue and be willing to listen to the other side. One thing that is really important is to realize that two people in love will make sacrifices for the other person. Love is unselfish. It's important to know truth when it comes to issues of morality, but sometimes minor issues can get blown out of proportion. It's far more important to have a loving relationship than to try to prove a point. Compromise is essential to make things work because two people, no matter how similar, will always have disagreements. Another thing I have learned is to trust God and His plan for my life when my feelings for someone are not reciprocated. Feelings can't always be trusted.

To me, being an Adventist means...

I am willing to be different from the world. God has called us to be a special people and to keep ourselves unspotted from the world. We have so much truth that so few people in this world understand, but it also means we are accountable to live up to this extra light! It is such a privilege to have hope of a better day!

In five years, I see myself

I have no idea! It's amazing how much my life has changed in the last 5 years. I suppose I'll still be working as a nurse, which has been a wonderful experience for me. It's a tough job and it has many difficult days, but what a blessing to serve others! I am also very involved in my church with leading out in Bible studies and serving as a deacon. My greatest accomplishment would be if God used me to help someone understand Him better!

My favorite Bible passage is...

There are so many! I love James 2:14-16 because it explains that true faith in God is active! We feel compelled to obey God and serve others when our lives have been transformed. This concept also is evident from Hebrews 11. I also love verses about God's love for us, such as Romans 5:8, and how He wants to be with us forever (John 14:1-3, Rev. 21:3,4)!

One final thing I'd like to mention...

I believe Ellen White is a prophet, but I also don't elevate her writings above the Holy Scriptures. Many people use her writings to beat other people over the head, especially on issue of diet. I don't believe her writings are as clear cut on that particular issue as others. The biggest thing is don't try to moralize or change me because that is the Holy Spirit's job. It takes time, but He is still working on me and slowly but surely I am being transformed.
