I believe in following the Bible and I believe in using the writings of Ellen White to better understand the Bible as well as for practical living. I believe in developing a home in the country and in having a home in harmony with Biblical principles. I prefer being in nature/rural areas to the city. I enjoy the rare opportunity to backpack, museums, gardening, wood working, good sermons, mission trips, work (especially manual labor), canoeing, kayaking, cooking, target shooting, hanging out with friends for a game night or camping, or a cookout. I love going exploring out in the woods taking pictures along the way of interesting plants and insects. Sometimes I'll hop in my car for a drive with the goal to see if I can get lost, along the way I take pictures of interesting things I find. I am looking for someone who is interested in developing a home in the country in harmony with the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy. Someone who is willing, if God leads that way, to serve as overseas missionaries. I have worked in Information Technology (computers) but am now studying full time in an MBA program. I'm also teaching myself wood working by hand. Once I'm done with my masters I want to find a job that is within a reasonable driving distance of suitable rural areas. I'd like to find some land and develop some agricultural pursuits on the side that could potentially become a full time business. I'm interested in healthcare management (among other areas), functioning in that realm is something I am considering for employment as this would provide options for overseas mission work. We know from SOP that the medical work will be one of the last lines of work we can engage in to reach people and that is why I am interested in that area. Someone who is involved with healthcare and interested in developing an agricultural business over time is would be nice.

What I'd like to do on a first date...

I prefer something casual...meet and greet...get an idea of what each other is like. Meeting for lunch and conversation would be good as well as going for walks, nature trails, museums, and kayaking to name some options.

My past relationships have taught me...

I have learned it is wise 1) to keep God and His will the focus and 2) take time, don't rush, 3) when in doubt, don't.The approach I have done in the past which I like is to spend 6 months or so just getting to know each other. Setting aside a couple weekends a month to commit to spending together, the intent being to get to know each other with no expectations, no physical interaction. At the end of those 6 months prayerfully consider moving to a dating relationship. If it progresses then prayerfully spend time getting to know each other more deeply with an eye towards marriage. Something I try to keep in mind: A Happy or Unhappy Marriage?--If those who are contemplating marriage would not have miserable, unhappy reflections after marriage, they must make it a subject of serious, earnest reflection now. This step taken unwisely is one of the most effective means of ruining the usefulness of young men and women. Life becomes a burden, a curse. No one can so effectually ruin a woman's happiness and usefulness, and make life a heartsickening burden, as her own husband; and no one can do one hundredth part as much to chill the hopes and aspirations of a man, to paralyze his energies and ruin his influence and prospects, as his own wife. It is from the marriage hour that many men and women date their success or failure in this life, and their hopes of the future life. {AH 43.1}

To me, being an Adventist means...

It means everything. We have a purpose, to be witnesses for Christ in whatever field of work or activity we pursue. But the most important is our relationship with Christ and cooperating with Him in the process of character development. It means living by Biblical principle and utilizing the writings of Mrs. White as practical guides.

In five years, I see myself

Graduate, find a job (healthcare, IT to name two areas) either in the U.S. or overseas (I am open to working overseas in Adventist hospitals or organizations). Preferred would be to find a job in Michigan near some nice rural areas, buy land, develop a crop/veg farm on the side then make the leap to doing that full time. Busy yes, but I believe a rural environment, especially that of a farm is the best environment for raising children.

My favorite Bible passage is...

That is difficult to answer. I really don't have just one, there are many I like. I enjoy reading Paul's writings. I have also been spending quite a bit of time in Psalms & Proverbs lately. I do really like the story of Caleb asking for the mountainous region where there were giants to be his inheritance.
