I am an imperfect Christian, although my experience has been that of 1 Cor. 7:15. Now, I am looking for a kind, true Christian, one who follows Jesus and, in that way, leads toward heaven.

What I'd like to do on a first date...

I would like to do something fun and active, but laid-back, on a first date. I know most people go to dinner, which is alright too, but it's so much more natural to hike and talk, or something similar. I really wouldn't date a non-friend, so just do activities that friends do for fun and get to know each other.

My past relationships have taught me...

Life and people don't always turn out the way you expect them to. There isn't enough space to write what I have learned! As anyone who has tried to save an empty marriage knows, the process of exploring all options to avoid divorce polishes the soul. I had thought that one just says no to divorce and it doesn't happen. Well, sometimes the other person asks to go. After trying absolutely everything to save the relationship, one has to let the other go, and it is a mercy from God. However, in the painful process, one finds strength, patience, God's measureless love and forgiveness, conflict resolution through collaboration, and nonviolent communication techniques. I learned that when I can't humanly offer my love and forgiveness anymore, I can offer those from God to a person. As they flow from Him to the other, they go through me, and wash away the hurt, anger, and bitterness. As an imperfect human, I can't love sometimes, but God always can, and as I offer that love, it washes through me and makes me whole. I learned that a God centered life and marriage is the only way I want to go.

To me, being an Adventist means...

Being an Adventist means following Jesus, following the Bible, loving God and keeping His commandments, and loving others as ourselves.

In five years, I see myself

God willing, I'd like to continue building my teaching career. I'll help spread the gospel through music in our church, and through prayer and personal interaction with local people and students from around the world. I'd like to travel, scuba dive, snow ski, hike, camp, and do other fun activities. Finally, I'd love to build a loving, God-centered marriage together with a friend, and perhaps have a family together, in whatever traditional or nontraditional form that takes.

My favorite Bible passage is...

"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:13-14. It was my favorite verse before I ever made the big mistakes that I have made. It reminds me that we can fall and get back up. Though we aren't perfect, we can still try. Just keep trying, pressing forward in Christ Jesus. It is so encouraging to me!

One final thing I'd like to mention...

I'm an English instructor for international students at a university in Arkansas. I've lived in several states, traveled to several countries, and previously experienced many active and inactive, indoor and outdoor activities. I can find something in common with almost anyone, though I love SCUBA diving and snow skiing best! I love music and play violin in a gospel ensemble for church, among other things! I love to laugh, though I don't consider myself to be very funny, so I find that I really appreciate someone with a somewhat odd sense of humor! I'd love to live in the country; meet a kind, true Christian who follows Jesus; and perhaps have a family, God willing, even if that means adopting or helping parent another's child(ren). I'm hopefully headed for heaven, following in Christ's footsteps, and want someone who will lead the way.
